In time for the 80th anniversary of Victory over Japan (VJ) Day, the National Armed Forces healthcare training and education programme has launched its dedicated website page, providing NHS staff with vital training resources to better support the entire Armed Forces community – including serving personnel, reservists, veterans and their families. 

VJ Day is a moment commemorating the end of the Second World War in the Pacific and honouring the sacrifices of all who served.   

The launch coincides with this significant milestone, reinforcing the NHS’s commitment to equipping healthcare professionals with the skills and knowledge necessary to meet the unique healthcare needs of the Armed Forces community. 

The programme delivers standardised training to help NHS trusts fulfil their obligations under the Armed Forces Covenant, promoting consistent, veteran and service-aware care throughout the health service. 

Gemma Saunders, National Armed Forces healthcare training and education programme Team Lead, said: 

“The launch of this dedicated website page marks a pivotal step in ensuring that all NHS staff have easy access to essential training resources. By improving understanding across the health service, we can better serve the diverse needs of the Armed Forces community.” 

Prof Tim Briggs CBE, Chair and National Lead of the Veterans Covenant Healthcare Alliance (VCHA), added: 

“This initiative is a key part of our ongoing commitment to support serving personnel, reservists, veterans and their families. By embedding consistent training and education across the NHS workforce, we are strengthening the quality of care delivered to those who have served our country.” 

The website acts as a central hub for training materials, updates, and information, encouraging NHS staff and stakeholders to engage fully with the programme.
