Hampshire has nearly 89,000 Veterans and approximately 213,500 Spouses/Partners and children alongside a Regular serving population of more than 20,500 personnel and 2,500 Reservists. This amounts to an Armed Forces population that is 18 per cent of the overall population.
Prof Tim Briggs CBE, VCHA chairman, said: “This was a truly outstanding application from a healthcare company that clearly cares about those who’ve served. It very clearly meets the requirements of the Armed Forces Covenant and our manifesto points and I’m delighted to have them on board. Well done!”
Tony Armstrong, Widening Scope (Projects) Lead, said: “PHL Group has a clear set of values. I’m absolutely delighted to have worked with them on their application and look forward to seeing how they develop their Armed Forces work over the next few years.”
Ross Brand, PHL Group CEO said: “PHL Group is a value driven organisation, with a focus on our people for the benefit of our patients and with the Veterans Aware accreditation I’m delighted to be able to extend this to the Armed Forces. In return for their service to the country, we’re proud to be able to support ex-forces to ensure they can continue their careers feeling appreciated and supported, in an environment that nurtures their skills while supporting their military service and help them to balance their work and personal lives.”
The VCHA will be holding its annual best practice national event on 20 September 23 at The Barbican in London. This is aimed at staff from NHS Trusts, care homes, independents and Nursing Home staff as well as military charities.
