The VCHA hosted a successful and moving workshop exploring the history and impact of the ‘Gay Ban’ in the UK military and how best to support LGBT+ individuals in the Armed Forces community.

Held in association with the LGBT+ military charity Fighting With Pride (FWP), the workshop explored its ongoing impact on those affected, despite its lifting 24 years ago, and the ongoing efforts to mitigate these risks. The aim was to provide a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by LGBT+ individuals within the Armed Forces community.

We were joined by FWP’s Chief Executive Caroline Paige MBE, Executive Chair Craig Jones MBE of and Dave Small, the FWP Pride in Veterans Standard (PIVS) lead, who all provided their personal experiences.  Dave also gave a short overview of the PIVS programme and how it can help in engaging and supporting LGBT+ veterans.

A video of the event has been uploaded to the VCHA YouTube channel on this link: https://youtu.be/ZYlW8cz2ONU or simply by watching the below video.
