Gregg Stevenson MBE, North West of England Regional Trainer for the Veterans Covenant Healthcare Alliance (VCHA), has been named a finalist for the Inspiration Award at the Soldiering On Awards 2025. The award recognises individuals from the Armed Forces community who have overcome significant challenges and continue to inspire others through their contributions.

Gregg served in the Royal Engineers for six years with the 24 Commando Engineer Regiment before being medically discharged due to injuries sustained during operational service in Afghanistan. Following his military career, he transitioned into the NHS, where he gained extensive experience supporting the recovery and wellbeing of veterans. He initially worked as a rehabilitation gym manager, later becoming a mental health practitioner with OpCOURAGE, the NHS veterans’ mental health and wellbeing service. His commitment to using lived experience to shape veteran care led to his appointment as Lived Experience Lead for OpCOURAGE in the North of England.
In addition to his clinical and advocacy work, Gregg achieved international sporting success when he won a gold medal in the PR2 mixed double sculls at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. His athletic accomplishments are a testament to his resilience and determination in the face of adversity.
Recently, Gregg took on the role of Regional Trainer for VCHA in the North West of England, where he will support NHS trusts in delivering Armed Forces aware care. He is a member of the Armed Forces Public Patient Voice Group and represents it on the OpRESTORE programme board, which focuses on surgical care for veterans with service-related injuries. He also serves as a trustee for the military charity Walking With The Wounded.

Whatever the outcome, I’m proud to represent the veteran community and grateful for the recognition of the journey i have been on and support I recieved along the way.”

Public voting for the Inspiration Award is now open and will close on Sunday 3 August 2025. The winners will be announced at a ceremony on 22 October 2025 at London’s Park Plaza Westminster.
